Nintendo has officially announced its limited edition Switch 2 console and Switch 2 Pro Controller based on The Legend of Zelda.
As was leaked last month, both the console and the controller are being released to mark the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, rather than the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The Switch 2 console appears to have a Triforce design on the dock, as well as Joy-Con controllers with Triforce designs on them.
The Pro Controller, meanwhile, has a similar Triforce design as well as green and black handles, similar to the black and white handles featured on the Tears of the Kingdom Pro Controller for Switch 1, and the coloured handles featured on limited edition Splatoon Pro Controllers.
Both will be available on October 29, with a special version of the Pro Controller containing a display stand, which will be available exclusively in Nintendo stores.
This is far from the first Nintendo system to be released with a Zelda theme – it’s done this with almost all of its handhelds for more than two decades. Back in 2004, the company released a gold Game Boy Advance SP with a Triforce on the lid, bundled with a copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap.
After this, it released a gold DS Lite in 2006 for Phantom Hourglass, a black Zelda-themed 3DS in 2011 for the 25th anniversary, a gold and black Triforce 3DS XL for A Link Between Worlds, and a gold New 3DS XL for Majora’s Mask 3D.
In terms of consoles, it released a limited edition Wii U console with a Zelda-themed GamePad, bundled with The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD. It also released a special Switch OLED with a white Zelda-themed dock for Tears of the Kingdom, and a gold Switch Lite in 2024.
