Lego Leaked To Be Making An Original PlayStation Console Set

Lego Leaked To Be Making An Original PlayStation Console Set

Despite controversy surrounding its skyrocketing set prices and Smart Brick inclusions, Lego has been on a roll when it comes to new set releases lately. From entirely new releases to long-awaited franchises like Pokémon finally getting their debut to creative takes on classic hardware, there is bound to be one new Lego set out there for just about every fan.

Although Lego's console set releases have mostly been limited to their own hardware, a recent leak posted by Brick Build Blogs on X suggests that not only is Lego jumping decades ahead for its next console, but that it will be none other than the original PlayStation console.

Using the information shared by Brick Tap News, we finally got a first look at the classic PlayStation 1 set that was teased all the way back in July alongside its free Astro Bot miniature set reward for those who bought the console. While I can't share any images of the leaked set, the insider stated that the set will include a total of 1911 pieces, be priced at $159.99, and release on October 1, 2026.

In terms of what the set includes itself, aside from being a near 1:1 recreation of the original PlayStation, the upcoming Lego Icons set will also include the same style of easter eggs as its predecessors, this time featuring a miniature race track from Gran Turismo and an island from the original Ape Escape.

Both of these miniature dioramas can seemingly be removed and displayed separately if you wanted as well, much like the buildable PlayStation controller that can be inserted into the memory card slot. On top of all these additions and Easter eggs, pressing the disc button will also pop open the top of the console, allowing you to see all of its detailed internals.

Although it couldn't be releasing at a worse time considering PlayStation's current disc and licensing controversies, the Lego leak does come not long after Xbox announced its own buildable console in the form of the original Xbox.

While Xbox's version of a classic buildable console is quite a bit more expensive, it does have a few extra functionalities like working light and sound controls, as well as three dioramas instead of PlayStation's 2. Even with these improvements, however, it's hard to compete with both the name-brand and satisfying tactile nature of Lego bricks, which will make the PlayStation Icons' set a must-have collector's item for many Sony fans.
