Persona 4 Revival Producers Officially Debunks Yosuke Romance

Persona 4 Revival Producers Officially Debunks Yosuke Romance

Persona 4 Revival is not only one of the most anticipated games in Japan right now, but worldwide for JRPG fans ready to jump back into Persona 4's supernatural murder mystery narrative. With both new and returning players having a treasure trove of exciting features, gameplay, and story enhancements to look forward to, one of the biggest questions on the minds of many fans is what social links will be changed in the remake.

Unfortunately, despite all the promising updates coming to Persona 4 Revival, the remake's producer, Kazuhisa Wada, had a heartbreaking update for fans given during an interview with GamesRadar+ at Gamescom this year.

During the interview, Wada responded to the demand for same sex romance options in Persona 4 Revival, and more specifically Yosuke, by saying he "was aware that some people were talking online about... and kind of hoping for that."

Unfortunately, despite the excitement that the demand has managed to reach the ears of Persona's creators, Wada also followed up by saying "if we did Yosuke, we kind of would have to do all the other male characters as well," and that due to "time and schedule" restraints, "we decided to let Yosuke float on by."

Although the official confirmation is far from the most surprising update to hear from Persona 4 Revival's producer, the update does come as a disappointment considering several teased dialogue changes for characters like Yosuke that not only made them less controversial, but made fans believe they could be leading to entirely new romance routes.

Even if the expectation of adding new romance routes for several of Persona 4's major side characters is certainly a tall order, the original Persona 4 concepts were already experimenting with male romances long before its official release in 2008, with data-mined voice recordings suggesting a closer relationship between Yosuke and the protagonist Yu Narukami.

While it would have been fantastic to see every one of Persona 4's side characters getting the same level of relationship depth as its core female cast, even having one option with Yosuke who was already planned to be included would have been more than enough on its own.

Thankfully, fans have already modded the scrapped romance option back into Persona 4's PC remaster with Persona 4 Golden, which will likely get ported over by dedicated fans sometime after the upcoming remake's release, albeit without the opportunity of including the unused dialogue given Persona 4 Revival's controversial voice actor changes.
