Apple TV is getting one new documentary in October, which happens to be one of two new additions about climbing. Directed by Amir Bar-Lev, The Last First: Winter K2 was filmed back in 2021, when a group of climbers tried to ascend the titular second-highest mountain on Earth. The documentary will be coming to Apple TV after its premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
One of the only family-friendly additions of the month, The Sisters Grimm is premiering its second season on October 2. The animated series, which is based on Michael Buckley’s graphic novels, follows two relatively modern sisters who discover a town full of fairy tales.
A series of projects based on various Mattel toys got the green light after the success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. One of those projects is now coming to fruition as Matchbox the Movie, inspired by the titular toy car line. John Cena stars as Sean, an undercover CIA agent who enlists his childhood friend group to help save the world.
The darkly funny German series Where’s Wanda is returning for a second season toward the end of the month. While Carlotta and Deda managed to get some semblance of their lives back in Season 1, yet another crisis with their daughter, Wanda, threatens to tear their family apart again.
Tenzing is based on the true story of Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, the first climbers to summit Mount Everest. Genden Phuntsok and Tom Hiddleston as the legendary climbers, who have their worldviews challenged by both the harrowing climb and each other. The film will receive a limited theatrical release starting October 9 before its Apple TV streaming premiere on October 16.
An entirely new Apple Original series, Nocturne is loosely based on the Joona Linna crime novels by Lars Kepler, the pen name for Alexander Ahndoril and Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril. It stars Liev Schreiber as Jonah Lynn, a detective who heads to a small Pennsylvania town embroiled in the threat of a serial killer’s return.
Apple TV continues to offer one ad-free subscription plan at $14.99/month, though that plan is now included in iCloud+ memberships. The service also recently launched its first official bundle with Peacock, which knocks about 30% off the standard price of having both subscriptions.
