IllFonic has big plans for Halloween: The Game following its recent launch, but you’ll have to wait a little longer to find out what they are.

Halloween: The Game has only just launched, and while it hasn't been a flawless experience so far, it is an absolute blast. Between running Michael Myers over with a bicycle or forming alliances on proximity chat, it's touching on that same magic that Friday the 13th: The Game captured. Unfortunately for anyone hoping to get a glimpse at what comes next, the studio isn't quite ready to lift the mask just yet.

Speaking to me about the future of Halloween: The Game, IllFonic Chief Creative Officer Jared Gerritzen says, "We will be sharing more of our roadmap in the near future. We are thrilled to share that the launch was only the beginning." But what could that roadmap include? When I asked whether it could drop content based on Rob Zombie's Halloween movies and David Gordon Green's recent trilogy, or how it plans to grow the game, I got a tight-lipped answer.

Gerritzen adds that "we cannot answer this without going into the roadmap, and we aren't quite there yet to share that info." While IllFonic clearly has more planned for Halloween: The Game, exactly what that means remains under wraps for now. I'd personally love to see some DLC from the weirder aspects of the series. Whether that's leaning into the mysterious murder cult that controls Michael Myers with a curse, or the kung-fu nonsense of Busta Rhymes fighting him, there's plenty of scope for the new horror game to explore.

The charm, though, comes from IIIFonic embracing these sillier aspects. Friday the 13th: The Game was full of rib-bursting moments filled with laughter, tears, and scares in one fell swoop. Speaking to that element, Gerritzen tells me that the studio "knew the community would keep creating those 'watercooler' moments with every title we have released. We can only ever guess what they will come up with, but we are always excited to see it."

When I ask him to reflect on what IIIFonic learned from Friday the 13th: The Game, Gerritzen simply notes that "we continue to learn and grow from all of our titles." On building a single-player campaign, he explains that IIIFonic "watched gamers really take to experiencing the game on their own before jumping into multiplayer with our most recent titles, and we knew we wanted to expand on that even more with this one. So we spent a lot of time building that out."

Aside from content updates, it'd be great to see it get Steam Deck verification - and better handheld PC support in general. After playing it on my ROG Ally Z1E, there are definitely a few optimizations needed for it to really take shape. In the meantime, IllFonic is keeping its biggest plans behind closed doors.
