Having initially released in early access in 2015 before finally fully releasing in 2022, Stranded Deep has gone on to be a well-beloved pillar of the survival game genre. While the original acclaimed survival game focused on a plane crash survivor in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, its developers at Beam Team Games have just announced a brand-new project with a unique spin on its predecessor's premise.
While the announcement of Beam Team Games' official sequel to Stranded Deep is already exciting on its own, the reveal trailer for Stranded Deep 2 also showcased a unique environment compared to the original game, with more than a few unique mechanics and creatures to encounter along your journey into its new disaster.
Rather than a tropical island in the middle of a vast ocean, the reveal trailer for Stranded Deep 2 showcases its unlucky protagonist stranded in an unforgiving desert wilderness this time around, with no shortage of deadly creatures like Hippos and Alligators trying to knock over their Kayak.
With the trailer already having been met with a wave of excitement from eager fans excited to jump into a new adventure with Stranded Deep 2, others have already started picking apart the footage for new details about what we can expect from the new release, which its developers have also been kind enough to share on their official website.
Through the official site, Stranded Deep 2 is promising to offer an "endless river world" which includes handcrafted canyons, dunes, and expansive valleys to explore while trying to uncover, with more being added in post-release updates.
Although we don't have an official release date for Stranded Deep 2 just yet, we do know that it will first be released in Early Access just like its predecessor, with the developers noting that "the community played a huge role in shaping Stranded Deep 1" on the official Steam Page.
A few new unique mechanics have also been teased already, with the inclusion of the obvious kayak travelling mechanic in addition to the previous raft, floating water buildings, reshaping terrain, sharing your builds, and even more detailed survival mechanics like heat exposure that you'll need to manage if you want to stay alive.
Thankfully, even though we're likely a long way off from getting to try out Stranded Deep 2 for ourselves if its currently undisclosed release date is anything to go by, there is no shortage of similar survival games out there to help scratch the same itch for now.
