Back in May, Bungie revealed that Destiny 3 is not in development, despite the popular assumption that the studio must be working on something alongside Marathon.
This triggered an almighty outcry from fans of the sci-fi franchise, many of whom had been banking on Bungie bringing the series back with a bang after Destiny 2 had kind of fizzled out in its later years.
That backlash, combined with the ongoing struggles of Marathon, has prompted the Sony-owned developer to speak out on its current situation.
In a new blog post from studio head Poria Torkan and Marathon general manager Josh Deane, the company makes one thing abundantly clear: Destiny isn't done.
"Destiny is foundational to Bungie’s future. We have more stories to tell, new worlds to build, but we have to do it right and give our teams the time they need to do justice to this amazing universe," they write.
"All of this is to say, we are not done with Destiny."
Again, this is apparently a direct response to the aforementioned outcry. The two bosses explain: "When we announced that Monuments of Triumph would be the final content update to Destiny 2, you responded in force. Your voices mattered, and the way you showed up made a real impact. You reminded everyone how much this world, its history, and its future still mean to you."
So what's the plan? Well, for starters, the developers confirm that they're currently working to bring back "vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids" for all players.
