2027 is set up to be one of the best years for anime movies, with massive new announcements having been made already. While the most anticipated movie for the next year is, undoubtedly, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2, there are other strong contenders on the way that rival it. Among them is Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, a newly announced release by Aniplex and A1 Pictures, which is projected to be released next year as well.
Infinity Castle Part 2 will feature exciting battles, with confrontations involving powerful Villains, such as Upper Rank 1 Kokushibo and Upper Rank 2 Doma. On the other hand, Solo Leveling will blow all competition out of the water with the adaptation of Jinwoo's biggest challenge yet — the battle against the Architect of the System. Solo Leveling is thus stepping up as one of the biggest modern challengers for Ufotable’s Demon Slayer franchise.
Demon Slayer set up its end with the announcement of a movie trilogy in 2024 when the fourth anime season concluded. In July 2025, this long-awaited trilogy of movies was officially kickstarted with Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 — Akaza's Return. This movie did big numbers both in Japan and overseas, eventually making it the most successful Japanese global movie release of all time, ahead of even its predecessor, the box office hit, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.
With the smashing success of the first movie, we're all waiting for the continuation of the trilogy with what is currently titled “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2.” Technically, even in late 2026, we still have no official release date for this upcoming movie. However, all major reports point to a 2027 release date. This is more likely with the announcement of a newly revealed Sony movie coming in September 2027.
Whenever Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 is released, it is guaranteed to be a big box office success, and in large part, this can be attributed to the sensational fights that it promises. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 — Akaza's Return focused on the battle of Upper Rank 3 Akaza against Tanjiro and Giyu. It also gave us sensational confrontations between Doma and Shinobu, as well as Kaigaku and Zenitsu. With the second movie, the streak of exciting battles is set to continue.
With Akaza down, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 will focus on the three powerful demons under Muzan. The first is Nakime, the new Upper Rank 4 who controls the Infinity Castle. Then comes Upper Rank 2 Doma, who beat Insect Hashira Shinobu in the last movie and still lives on. Finally, there is the Upper Rank 1 Kokushibo, who acts as Muzan’s very strongest underling and has yet to show us his true might.
Nakima’s powers make her a hard enemy to beat, but all fan attention is especially on Doma and Kokushibo, who are Muzan's two strongest underlings, ahead of even Akaza. With the likes of Tanjiro in recuperation, the other Hashira and Demon Slayers will be highlighted. All of these battles will conclude in the second movie and push us closer to the final confrontation against Muzan, which will be exclusively reserved for the finale of the trilogy.
Studio Ufotable going all out for its next Demon Slayer movie is a guarantee, just as it did with the first movie. When it comes to the confrontations against the Upper Rank Demons, Infinity Castle Part 2 won't disappoint. Demon Slayer features a rather simplistic story, and battles are what really carry the hype. At the box office, Demon Slayer is sure to dominate, but that doesn't mean it won't face any competition. 2027 has been set up to be one of the best years for anime movies in general, and in large part, this can all be attributed to Demon Slayer's own success.
