The Witcher 3 Remastered First Look Officially Revealed At ONL

CDPR just announced a surprise The Witcher 3 remaster at Gamescom Opening Night Live, free for all existing owners.

Not only does the remaster boast enhanced visuals, but improved monster behavior, a skill tree revamp, expanded photo mode, additional finishers, cross-platform mod support, updated quest tracking, a looting overhaul, better mount handling, immersive meditation, new accessibility features, ray-tracing tweaks, UI improvements, and much more.

To cap it off, CDPR is making Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine completely free for all The Witcher 3 players, both of which will also be included at no extra charge in the remaster.

"This new version of the game features an array of improvements," CDPR said in a blog post announcing the remaster. "Bringing upgrades to visuals, gameplay, and more. It will be available as a free upgrade to all owners of the game."

Of course, that's not all CDPR had to show off at Opening Night Live — it also unveiled our first look at Songs of the Past, the upcoming expansion developed in conjunction with The Witcher remake team Fool's Theory. Doug Cockle returns to voice Geralt of Rivia in his final outing before passing the mantle to Ciri in The Witcher 4, bridging the gap between both games.

The trailer shows Geralt approaching a strange festival, brandishing the same sword featured in the first Witcher's opening cutscene, and grappling a monster towards him Scorpion-style. "This full-fledged third expansion takes the White Wolf on a new adventure to the peaceful realm of Letten, where dark secrets lurk beneath the surface," CDPR announced.

Letten is a bit of a mystery. There is no reference to a region of that name in the books or games, but a possible connection can be found in Dandelion, who holds the title of Viscount de Lettenhove. Equally, we know very little about 'Lettenhove', but perhaps they are one and the same, and we are finally digging into Jaskier's corner of the Continent. Otherwise, it'd be an odd coincidence to have two ambiguous Lettens.

We still don't have an exact date for the DLC, but Songs of the Past launches exclusively for current-gen consoles and PC next year — over a decade after the game released. In the meantime, we have the remaster to look forward to, offering yet another excuse to dive back into The Witcher 3 and its expansions.
