Minamoto no Yoshitsune is the last boss fight in Onimusha: Way of the Sword and easily one of the biggest difficulty spikes in the entire game. The fight is long, has three separate phases, and gives you very little room for careless mistakes.
If you’re struggling to beat Yoshitsune, you need to play defensively rather than deal more damage. You need to learn when to deflect, when to dodge, and when to save your Awakening for a guaranteed opening in Onimusha WoTS. The fight becomes much more manageable once you stop trying to rush through it and start treating each phase as its own battle. This guide explains how to beat Yoshitsune and deal with his attacks in each phase.
Since this is a three-phase fight, you need to do some preparation beforehand. Yoshitsune is a battle of attrition, especially on Carnage difficulty, where his increased health makes mistakes even more costly.
Before entering the fight, make sure you have your best charms equipped and stock up on important consumables, namely Sun Dried Hozuki, Amulet of Introspection and The Mirror of Revival.
Make sure to stock up on enough Stimulant and Heavy Restoratives as well.
Your charm setup can make or break your fight with Yoshitsune. Since you can only equip three charms at a time, these are the ones I recommend:
You don’t need to heal constantly during this fight. If you can avoid damage consistently, saving your Hozuki charges for the final phase can make the ending much easier.
Don’t burn through everything during the first phase. You have three phases to survive, so resource management is just as important as learning the boss's attacks.
