At the Inn at the Crossroads during The Nilfgaardian Connection main quest in The Witcher 3, your choices can affect how you enter Crow's Perch later. While fighting them does not prevent you from continuing the Bloody Baron quest, it does make reaching the Baron more complicated. The first part of this encounter happens during The Nilfgaardian Connection, when Geralt visits the Inn at the Crossroads in Velen while searching for information about the Nilfgaardian spy Hendrik. After speaking with the innkeeper, a group of the Baron's men arrives and starts causing trouble.
This is where your choice matters for the upcoming Bloody Baron quest. You can respond aggressively and tell the soldiers to back off, which starts a fight that requires Geralt to kill them. More of the Baron's men will also be waiting outside, although you can avoid another fight by leaving through the back door.
The second approach is to tell the soldiers that Geralt is a witcher. They recognize what that means and decide not to cause trouble, allowing the situation to end peacefully.
You can also offer to buy the soldiers a drink. This leads to another set of dialogue choices where Geralt can either keep the conversation friendly or provoke a fight. Keeping the conversation peaceful lets Geralt finish the encounter without killing the Baron's men and also gives him some additional information about the Baron.
It is better not to fight the Baron's men if you want the easiest route through the Bloody Baron quest. Keeping the encounter peaceful means the guards at Crow's Perch will allow Geralt to enter through the main gate when he arrives at the Baron's fort.
If you choose to fight the soldiers at the inn and kill them, the guards at Crow's Perch will recognize Geralt and refuse to let him through the main entrance. This does not lock you out of the Bloody Baron quest, but you will have to find an alternative way into the fort.
If you dealt with the Baron's men peacefully, travel to Crow's Perch and approach the main gate. The guards will allow Geralt to enter, and a sergeant will direct him toward the Baron.
