Steam Users Have Until August 26 to Claim 2024 Creature Collector Completely Free of Charge

Thanks to Steam's Free-to-Keep Promotion, PC gamers are able to claim and download a 2024 creature collector that sits at with a 74% Mostly Positive review rating on the platform. As long as it is claimed before August 26 at 10am PT/1pm ET, Steam users are able to keep it forever—no charges, no caveats.

For those unfamiliar, Steam typically hosts two different free game promotions alongside the plethora of sales and discounts on the platform. Steam's Free-to-Keep Promotion, which includes this creature-collecting game, gives fans a limited time to download a game (usually around 48 hours, sometimes longer), but those fans are able to keep it forever. There's also Steam's Free Weekend promotion, which typically makes a full game (although sometimes trials) free to play for a limited time, with discounts if purchased afterward. Between the two, Steam gives PC gamers a lot of free games week after week.

Previously announced is the Steam Free-to-Keep Promotion Dokimon Quest, with the developer/publisher confirming ahead of time that it would go live at 10am PT/1pm ET on August 24. Now, fans have 48 hours, or until August 26 at 10am PT/1pm ET, to claim this game and keep it forever. For the uninitiated, Dokimon Quest is a turn-based creature-collecting RPG heavily inspired by the Game Boy Color era. Players can capture and train more than 140 original Dokimon while exploring 15+ towns, caves, mountains, seas, and other areas across the Xelos region. The game follows a 15–20 hour story about finding a missing childhood friend, with battles against rival Rangers and evil corporations along the way. There is also plenty of post-game content for players who want to keep collecting monsters, hunt for rare variants, and complete the game's collection.

Dokimon Quest currently has a Mostly Positive rating on Steam, with 74% of 379 total reviews marked positive and 76% of its 13 recent reviews positive. Players have generally responded well to its retro presentation, creature-collecting gameplay, exploration, and modern quality-of-life features that make the old-school formula easier to play. The Steam creature-collector game's nostalgic approach appears to be one of its biggest strengths. The biggest criticisms levied against, generally speaking, are a lackluster story, a plethora of bugs and other technical issues, and poorly explained game mechanics.

That said, perhaps one of the best reasons to check out this free Steam game is that the developer has been hard at working improving it based on player feedback. There have been plenty of patches since its initial release, and purportedly it's a much better game now. Given that most of the player-mentioned issues are things that can be patched, it's possible fans find themselves a new Pokemon-like game to play.

After all, there are plenty of Pokemon-like games on Steam. Fans can throw a rock and likely hit a "Pokemon clone," but there are plenty of games out there that take and evolve the formula. Dokimon Quest is different in that it's a throwback to the GBC era, and so it stands out.
