Stardew Valley and Haunted Chocolatier developer Eric Barone, better known as ConcernedApe, has offered another update on the long-awaited game, confirming that development is still moving forward. To keep expectations in check, Barone did not reveal extensive new details or comment on Haunted Chocolatier's release date, but more or less just checked in with his supportive community.
Barone has previously acknowledged that Haunted Chocolatier is taking a long time to develop, with his June 25 update explaining that he continues to carefully revisit many aspects of the game. That process includes systems players may interact with frequently, which he wants to feel polished, intuitive, and satisfying before the game is released. He also admitted that he spends considerable time refining small details that players may ultimately take for granted once everything works as intended.
Despite the lengthy development process, Barone says he is not particularly stressed about how long Haunted Chocolatier is taking in his August 30 update. He recognizes that his development pace is slower because of his other responsibilities with Stardew Valley's updates, but he has no intention of cutting corners simply to get the game out sooner. For Barone, rushing Haunted Chocolatier would undermine the time already invested in making it something he can genuinely be proud of. For how long it is taking him, though, he thanked the community for their patience:
"[A]lmost everyone is supportive, so I have nothing much to complain about. I do appreciate how understanding you guys are...I feel a little embarrassed writing any of this because you guys probably just want the game at this point, not to hear me yapping about it. I get that. It can be hard to “keep the faith” when you are waiting a long time. I really cherish those who do keep the faith, though, and I wish you, your family, and your pets peace and prosperity through all seasons."

That personal standard appears to be increasingly important as development continues. Barone says his primary goal is to create a game he is proud of and, perhaps more importantly, one that he personally enjoys playing. He believes he has reached a point where he already enjoys Haunted Chocolatier in its unfinished state, particularly following some recent additions to the game. He hopes that enjoyment will ultimately translate to players once the game is ready, and knowing how excited the Stardew Valley community is for Haunted Chocolatier, there will indubitably be a lot of players.
For now, Barone is asking fans to continue being patient as Haunted Chocolatier development continues to take shape. He admits that it can feel awkward to provide another development update when fans ultimately want the finished game, but he also recognizes that waiting this long can make it difficult for players to remain confident that the project is still progressing.
While there is still no release date to point toward, Barone's latest message makes one thing clear: Haunted Chocolatier remains in active development, and he is still deeply invested in making it the game he wants it to be.
