During the first hour of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, you'll be shown the ropes of combat, meet some of the characters, and have the narrative scene set for you. You'll also be able to customize your main character's name and appearance slightly to suit your preferences (though this isn't a fully-blown character creator). After this, Fortuna will ask you a rather strange question about insects, and you'll be given three ways you can respond to her. If you're a bit unsure about the 'How do you feel about insects?' question in Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave, don't worry. This guide explains everything you need to know.
When Fortuna asks you 'Tell me truly - how do you feel about insects and the like?' you should answer truthfully as yourself. There are three different answers you can give:
This answer determines whether a setting is turned on or off, and if you have phobias, it's actually very useful.
The setting in question is called Enemy Masking. Turning this setting on changes the appearance of these enemies when you encounter them in the game. If you choose either "I have no problem with them," or "I actually like them," then the appearance of these insect-like creatures will remain normal. However, if you select "I can't stand to see them," then the Enemy Masking setting is enabled, and their appearance is changed entirely to resemble something that doesn't look like an insect at all!
If you didn't realize what this question did, or you accidentally selected the wrong answer, you can change this at any time by returning to the main menu screen. This is done by pressing + on your Joy-Con or Pro Controller, going to System, and then selecting 'Return to Title.' From here, you can then go to 'Extras,' select 'Enemy Masking' and then turn it on or off depending on your personal preferences.
This menu is also where you'll find the ability to change the voice language track between English and Japanese!
The good news is that outside of this, that question doesn't actually mean anything. It's not the first of any major gameplay-impacting decisions you'll need to make as you progress through the story. It's just for player comfort before they embark on this lengthy RPG.
