One Reddit user shared a comment stating that maybe it was a glitch all along where the queue to pre-order was left open for 10 hours or so because it's too long a time nowadays. Another user stated that, in the past, there were no queues for pre-orders, and they were available for weeks, whereas now they never last more than a day. Either way, the recent announcement of Pokemon TCG adding Ex Star cards falls flat, as customers rarely have access to new releases in the first place because of scalpers.

Scalping is such a big problem for the franchise and other TCGs that the newly revealed Pokemon Wild Card movie about the trading card game saw comments under its YouTube trailer joking about the villain being a scalper. Even though it's a joke, it captures the community's morale pretty well.
Prices are so bad that Pokemon TCG's returning Prismatic Evolution set being sold over MSRP from official stores was a good thing for fans, because it was still much lower than prices found online. The upcoming 30th Celebration set is likely to follow suit, unfortunately.
