There's been some confusion around The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered and how it's actually going to work.
I had assumed that the remaster — which was announced at Gamescom last week — would exist as its own separate release, replacing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition (the native PS5 version that launched in 2022, just to be clear).
However, that's not going to be the case on Sony's current-gen system. If you already have the Complete Edition on PS5, you'll simply download an update that upgrades the game to Remastered.
This means that there'll be no new Trophy list, as there's no new edition to download. That's probably a bit of a kicker for hardcore Trophy hunters.
What's more, your previous saves will be fully compatible with Remastered, because it's essentially the same game, just updated with all of the new graphical and gameplay improvements.
This confirmation comes from CD Projekt Red community director Marcin Momot, who's always happy to clarify things over on X (formerly Twitter).
Replying to a fan, Momot makes it clear that Remastered is indeed just an update to the "current game client".
So what about players who are jumping from the PS4 version of The Witcher 3? Well, it was already a free upgrade to the Complete Edition, so nothing really changes on that front — you're just getting Remastered now instead.
