Demon Slayer has become one of the most impactful anime series of the 2020s, starting with its massive success with the release of the Mugen Train movie. The series has continued its successful theatrical run with the 2025 movie, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 — Akaza’s Return. This movie smashed all records for Japanese films worldwide. Because of its overwhelming success, its streaming release date kept getting delayed. Finally, on July 28, 2026, various platforms, including Crunchyroll, added the movie to their libraries for fans to stream. Now, another anime streaming giant, Netflix, just got the rights to the movie. Starting September 28, 2026, North American fans of Demon Slayer will be able to enjoy the movie at home on Netflix.
Demon Slayer set up its biggest project yet at the end of the fourth season of the TV anime, released in 2024. The invasion of the Infinity Castle was set in motion as Muzan was attacked and the Demon Slayers teleported into the castle of the Demon King. The stakes had simply never been so high in the entire run of the series. This led us into Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which kicked off on a very high note, featuring high-octane battles, one after the other. Akaza fought Tanjiro and Giyu relentlessly, and while he fell at the end, he is a character that moved millions of viewers. We also can't forget the battles of Shinobu Vs Doma and Zenitsu Vs Kaigaku. The movie was definitely incredible to experience on the big screen, with extremely satisfying initial releases being followed up by the IMAX screening, which took it to the next level.
While we got to enjoy Demon Slayer's amazing run in theaters, we also wanted to be able to watch the movie from the comfort of our homes. Many fans choose to watch anime content on platforms like Crunchyroll, while others prefer to have more versatility with Netflix to indulge in anime and other mediums at the same time.
With that being said, Netflix had previously announced on September 13, 2026, that it would be getting the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie. This wasn't exactly surprising, as Netflix also hosts the previous installments of Demon Slayer, which include its first four anime seasons and the Mugen Train movie. Starting September 28, 2026, fans with a Netflix account are now able to stream Infinity Castle from the comfort of their home on any day, any time.
Technically, Netflix is getting the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie quite late. Initially, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle had its Japanese release in theaters in July 2025. The movie went international a month later, and for U.S. audiences, the release in theaters wouldn't be until two months later, in September 2025. As this movie went global, its success became unprecedented. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle became the highest-grossing Japanese movie of all time globally, surpassing all others that have ever come before it. Its grand success sadly came with its own negatives, especially when it comes to the out-of-theater releases. The movie was simply so successful in theaters that there was little financial incentive for it to be released on DVD and streaming services in 2025.
However, eventually, almost a year after the release of the movie in Japanese theaters, it would finally be made available for fans to watch at home. On July 29, 2026, the movie was released on DVD, and a day prior, on July 28, it was officially available on some streaming services. Crunchyroll received Infinity Castle immediately upon its streaming release, making it available for millions of anime fans to watch at home at the end of July. Crunchyroll clearly had first rights when it came to the Infinity Castle movie in North America and most countries around the world. Netflix only added Infinity Castle to its library now, in September.
It must be mentioned, however, that this September 28, 2026, release on Netflix doesn't apply to all countries. Other regions, such as Southeast Asia, received the movie far earlier on the same platform, in July 2026 instead.
