EA SPORTS has revealed a good bit of information up to this point, with the highly anticipated gameplay and presentation deep dive lying in wait. Today, EA and the team in Vancouver have released the deep dive video focusing on both gameplay and presentation for NHL 27. These are the two biggest upgrades for the game coming off of NHL 26, where the series brought in NHL EDGE technology, which will carry the gameplay further this year. NHL EDGE provides data from every facet of the game, which allows the devs for NHL 27 to make the game behave as authentic as possible. The game previously introduced team identities, and this year it will be going deeper to give each team more definitive behavior. Sure, there have been playbooks for years, but NHL 27 will introduce a new tactical identity for each individual franchise. More intelligent teammates and Team-Specific Playbooks will drive the authenticity of NHL 27.
Positional data was leveraged from hundreds of real NHL games that will give an authentic foundation to build on. Each playbook will need to be learned, and more dynamic AI means more cohesion with teammates. Colorado will offer speed and fast puck movement while Tampa Bay will provide offensive pressure from the blue line while working the puck behind the net. This should allow for varied and more diverse matchups, especially if your team doesn't match up well against certain opponents. Attacking the teams will be different due to how each one plays.
A whiteboard-style visualizer will be shown to better provide details on each individual team's strategy and playbook. Players will be able to change playbooks to try them out with specific teams. The Hurricanes may have won the Stanley Cup, but many tout them as boring. Well, see if you can get their prestigious forwards to focus on scoring rather than puck play with someone else's playbook. Gone are the eSports competitive and quick action overlays as the design and atmosphere have gone back to a television feel. The new graphics package looks much more professional and more cuts to the crowd that will add to the immersion of the game will be prevalent in NHL 27. Intro transitions, goal animations, real horns, and the elimination of the quick five-second game introduction are just a few things players can expect.

A new system called The Orchestrator has been implemented to reduce the cut-and-paste feel of playing so many games. The old presentation style would drive the monotony, but this new system will eliminate that. Every stoppage will introduce a new story so that no two games will look the same. The Orchestrator is aware of the elements taking place on and off the ice. Game will feel more dynamic with less repetitive replays and situational knowledge for celebrations and statistic overlays.
Hockey Tourism will make every arena its own living, breathing entity. Many from EA traveled to each arena to experience and document what it was like, so that every arena will be different in the game. Fan passion and true-to-life landmarks create different emotions and atmosphere for 32 different teams. Local music and goal horns will further isolate each location as this will also relieve any monotonous tones throughout a campaign.
