Santa Monica Studio has dropped new gameplay details for God of War Laufey, and revealed details about the different editions available at launch.
God of War Laufey made quite a splash at PlayStation's summer State of Play. With a nearly 20 minute long gameplay demo, Santa Monica Studio set up high expectations for the next entry in the God of War franchise. They followed the reveal with a release date that isn't all that far off, February 16, 2027. With that date fast approaching, the studio has seen fit to provide some more details on how God of War Laufey plays along with the different editions coming at launch.
Bows have always had a big presence in the God of War franchise. Kratos wielded two different bows in the Greek saga, and Atreus wields one as his primary weapon in the Norse saga. Laufey continues the family tradition by equipping Faye with the Serpent Bow, a versatile weapon that appears quite capable in close-quarters and at range.
By holding down the trigger, Faye has a precise aim and increased draw distance. When fully aiming, she'll also be able to strike different weak points on an enemy, opening them up for brutal attacks. She can also charge the bow and stack up to five arrows to deliver a powerful volley.
However, Faye can also enter a hip-fire mode by half-pressing the aim trigger. In this stance, she can quickly unleash arrows at close range, disorienting them and setting them up for combos. This mode also has the benefit of juggling airborne enemies and extending combos.
Much like her sword, the Serpent Bow can be customized with different arrow types, abilities, and cosmetics. Different Scales not only change the appearance of the bow, but also its playstyle through unique perks. Overall, the Serpent Bow appears to be quite a versatile weapon.
Available for pre-order now, God of War Laufey launches with two different editions, Standard and Digital Deluxe Edition. Though PlayStation is eliminating physical media in the future, those plans won't come to frution by the time Laufey launches. The Standard Edition can be purchased either digitally or physically. Anyone who pre-orders either edition of the game gets the Last Wish Armor Set, Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance, and an in-game resource pack.
At $79.99, the Digital Deluxe Edition packs-in the Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Dark Alchemy Blade, Dark Alchemy Bow Scales, Dark Alchemy Catalyst, an in-game resource pack, Digital Mini Artbook,and the official digital soundtrack. A $10 Digital Deluxe Upgrade pack will also be made available for those who buy the Standard Edition and decide they want the deluxe goodies.
