Pokemon GO is launching a special Mega Raid event giving fans the chance to pick up Mega Gengar at select retail locations for a limited time. The Pokemon GO raids will celebrate the recent launch of the Pokemon TCG's special 30th anniversary set, 30th Celebration.
The monster-catching mobile game from Scopely Explore has given fans plenty to do in its newest season. Following the conclusion of Pokemon GO's Mega Finale event, which wrapped up the 2026 edition of GO Fest, Scopely Explore wasted no time in rolling out Twilight Trails as the game's Fall season. The new season has already introduced multiple new Pokemon with the addition of Maschiff and Mabosstiff, alongside new Mega Pokemon coming to the game in Mega Staraptor and Mega Chandelure. Now, Pokemon GO is giving fans the chance to battle and capture one of the franchise's most popular Mega Evolutions.
Pokemon GO officially announced its Pokemon TCG 30th Celebration Event on September 27, teaming up with the franchise's mega-popular card game. The event will feature increased spawn rates for Mega Gengar raids at select retail locations, partnering with Best Buy, GameStop, and Target for the special raids. Players who visit participating stores will also receive exclusive Timed Research missions to Pokemon GO players, with rewards including Poke Balls, themed Pokémon encounters, and more. Fans can even claim exclusive in-game cosmetics for purchasing Pokemon GO gift cards at participating retailers, giving out a Gengar Knit Cap after redeeming the code. The Pokemon TCG 30th Celebration officially began on September 27, and will run through October 20.
Pokemon GO's newest event is not the first time the mobile game and TCG have partnered for exclusive events. The launch of the Mega Lucario ex Figure Collection in late 2025 brought a similar event to Pokémon GO, boosting rates for Mega Lucario raids at retail locations. The Pokemon TCG also launched a full Pokemon GO-themed expansion in 2022, featuring cards based on characters like Pokemon GO's Team leaders and in-game mechanics like PokeStops and Lure Modules.

Scopely Explore recently confirmed the spotlight Pokemon for October's Community Day, giving fans the chance to catch more Zoruas during the event on October 10. The mobile game is also getting fans ready for the first big in-person event of 2027, confirming the dates for the 2027 edition of Pokemon GO Tour, which will run in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and Los Angeles, California during the weekend of February 19 with the global event the following weekend. Scopely Explore clearly has big things in store for Pokemon GO as the game looks to close out 2026 on a high note.
