As a survival experience, Breathedge 2 is all about exploring deep space, finding junk resources, and turning them into valuables that you can actually use to repeat the same process with more depth by upgrading your existing tools, reverse-engineering more complex devices, and making life easier for yourself in the middle of nowhere.
One of these junk materials that you will have to search every corner of the space for is glass. Unlike materials like Wires or Electrical Tape that can be extracted using special tools, you will have to find small balls of glass in the open space, and that might make it a little frustrating.
As marked on the map above, move north a little from your train, and then you should be able to spot a tube-like corridor floating in space, with windows all around it. Glass balls are inside that tube, ready to be collected. There are 4 to 5 units of glass that you can loot from this tube, which should be enough for your early needs to repair some stuff inside the train.
However, if you ever need more glass, take a look north-west of your train. There is a giant tube entrance at this location marked on the second map above. But you shouldn't enter the tube. Instead, try to look for a train wagon that is torn apart in half, with a spaceman's corpse floating around it. You will find a few more glass balls around the wagon.
Fixing the lamp inside your train is one instance of a device that requires glass. Exploring debris is the only way to find the glass balls. So, you should always be on the lookout for it and collect any instance that you find, as it is a rare material.
Crafting Helmet, Flashlight, and Spraytron also require glass. It's not a commonly used material, and you don't need to worry about it much after repairing the lamp inside the train, especially since you already have a helmet. The only thing that is somewhat necessary is a flashlight. But you won't have the crafting recipe for it by default. You will have to discover some other special items after glass to craft a flashlight; that's just not an early-game concern.
Getting the essential tools crafted earlier in the game is your top priority. Scrap, Thumper, and Cutter are three tools that actually make progression possible in the game. Once you have these, you can make significant progress in both main and side quests.
