Sony is combating demand for the PS5 Pro in Japan by limiting sales to fans with more than 60 hours of gameplay over the past two years.

Gamers can apply for a ticket to purchase the ¥137,980 (~$877) console from the Sony Store, but must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible:

Applications will be open until 7th October with the sales period set to commence on 26th October.

The platform holder warns that if the volume of applicants exceeds the available hardware supply, a lottery will take place. Successful applicants will have until 2nd November to complete their purchase.

While sales of the PS5 haven’t been particularly impressive in Japan recently, the PS5 Pro is in high demand worldwide – partly due to the upcoming release of GTA 6.

I like how Sony’s solution here prioritises legitimate fans, which means those who actually play on PlayStation are given first priority to purchase a PS5 Pro. It’s better than those units going to scalpers.

With the prices of hardware rising across the world, it’s going to be interesting to see just how much of an impact GTA 6 has on PS5 sales in general.
