The Terraria State of the Game for September 2026 confirms the first phase of crossplay testing is close, with “a little something” extra.

Terraria crossplay has been on the cards for quite some time now. Developer Re-Logic has been working hard with its partners at DR Studios to bring the PC, console, and mobile versions of the sandbox game to feature parity, and it was over three full years ago in July 2023 that we first got a teaser image from a cross-platform build. As the team looks towards the 1.4.6 update, Head of Business Strategy Ted 'Loki' Murphy is here with the Terraria State of the Game for September 2026, and he says it won't be much longer.

"What a month it has been for our little team," Murphy begins. Some of the Terraria developers recently took "a multi-week international odyssey" through Gamescom in Germany and all the way to the TapTap Game Fest in China. Murphy says the crew was "overwhelmed" by the "sheer number, passion, and positivity" of the Chinese fans who showed up to say hello, and "walked away fired up for the future of the game, our studio, and already looking forward to the next chance for our team to meet the fans."

During that time, the rest of the team "has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on Crossplay Phase One," along with a small handful of fixes that remain in the wake of the massive item dump of Terraria 1.4.5.7 and its subsequent hotfix patch. Murphy says Re-Logic expects the first submission for that first crossplay update "to be ready in the near future," noting that he will "share the moment this occurs" to keep players in the loop.

Terraria 1.4.6 is set to be the update "pulling it all together." Once that first test build is in people's hands, Murphy notes that "The plan is to try and get Phase Two in as soon as possible behind Phase One." However, he also teases, "We just might have a little something for everyone in between the two."

Murphy also takes a moment to reflect on the game's 15-year-long journey. "Remember when console and mobile were months (or years) behind PC? WE are so glad that is no longer the case." With crossplay now "imminent," he notes that the team will be combining their developer updates into one place and just noting there if anything applies to a specific platform, and concludes, "What a time to be a Terrarian, right?"

That's all we get for now, although the developers of modding hub tModLoader also check in to thank contributors for the "huge amount of community participation" towards finalizing the release of its big overhaul to Terraria 1.4.5. It notes that the final version "will take many months still" to complete, although you're welcome to join the 1.4.5-dev branch via Steam in the meantime if you're interested in helping out with the testing process.
