When it comes to multiplayer games, updates are their lifeblood. Balance patches are one thing, keeping the game from shattering from unfairness and letting the community know they're heard, but proper content is what keeps players coming back, both during breaks and in the day-to-day.
Deadlock is one such game, despite not being formally released, that relies on these content patches to keep up player retention and excitement. Their newest release, City Never Sleeps, comes with major presentation overhauls, six new heroes, and a new cursed shop. With the newest update finally announced, it's time to go over everything brought to the table.
The City Never Sleeps update is live right now, with a fully reworked map including four distinct districts, a complete visual overhaul, and plenty more to do while you're running around the Cursed Apple. The various districts change the design of buffs, neutral monster camps, and the overall look of each and every draw.
Speaking of those recent additions, Valve has released a set of new heroes for the next Hero Vote, a process where players decide the release order for the characters shown off in today's update. For every game played, players will earn one vote to send in through the Hideout, with wins rewarding two votes instead.
At designated times throughout the next few weeks starting on October 2nd, Valve will release the hero with the most votes into live servers, allowing players to use them in all modes. It's important to remember that in order to use a hero in Ranked matches, you'll need to amass 15 wins in Standard games. Players also need to make sure they select three or more old characters to ensure they have fallback picks in case the new heroes are given to another player instead.
These new designs are some of the best Valve have put out for the fledgling MOBA, and with only descriptors for the current kits, players' minds are racing. The massive Rat King is the immediate fan favorite, but I'm personally obsessed with Dead Man Danny, Jetpack and Explosives.
New York itself is beautifully reduxed, all the more stylized and packed with personality. Whether you're in the Plaza, Chinatown, Haunted Lot, or Theater, each has a fantastic new look to make the Cursed Apple feel so lived in, and leaves players with all new routes to sort out. Each also has a major draw, like the Sunken Plaza POI, which offers up plenty of souls, but cuts off the sound from outside while you're hunting.
Meanwhile, Chinatown's Belltower allows you to amass a ton of cash, but requires you to ring the bell over a period of time while you rack in your rewards. Healing Snacks and Tough Crates are new rewards that can be found around the map, giving you some HP and offering extra souls in exchange for a heavy melee.
