Go big or go home – that was probably Good Smile Company’s approach to this announcement.
It’s partnering with Grand Kingdom dev Monochrome Corporation on a new intellectual property named IGNISPHERE, which will include various cross-media products, including a 2028 action RPG named DAWNGAZER, planned for the PS5.
This project will be led by Unicorn Overlord director Takafumi Noma, and while details are light at this early stage, you can get a glimpse of the game courtesy of the trailer embedded below.
Composer Yoshimi Kudo, who worked on Elden Ring, will contribute music to the project, and you can also get a taste of his approach courtesy of the video.
But as alluded to above, this IGNISPHERE project expands beyond games, as it will also encompass merchandise and a variety of light novels, published by Kadokawa under its Fujimi Fantasia Bunko.
I always think it’s a bit presumptuous to create a new IP with so many cross-media branches like this; usually it’s best to start with a singular product, like a light novel or a manga or an anime, and then branch out from there.
Clearly Good Smile Company thinks it has something special on its hands with IGNISPHERE, though, and the crown jewel will be the DAWNGAZER game, announced today.
