Steam is set to welcome a new cozy life sim called Huglings, a game that blends elements of Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, two of the genre's most popular titles. Steam is already home to no shortage of cozy games, particularly from smaller developers experimenting with the genre, but Huglings could distinguish itself with an emphasis on peaceful, feel-good gameplay.
It was already clear that 2026 would bring a wave of Stardew Valley-inspired games. Long-awaited titles such as Starsand Island were scheduled for release this year, while numerous other similar games had been announced with 2026 release dates. Huglings, however, has received relatively little attention, perhaps in part because it is being developed by a very small team of just two young, dedicated developers.
Huglings is positioning itself as a different kind of cozy life sim. Developer Cuddlecados promises that players can "create peace as they farm, craft, and decorate their dream home." The game appears to have no combat and instead centers on building friendships, even with its antagonists, the Goblins. That emphasis on peacefulness could become one of Huglings' defining features, particularly as many cozy life sims have grown increasingly demanding. Rather than asking players to become sword-wielding farmers who manage automated production lines while maintaining multiple romantic relationships, Huglings appears determined to keep its focus on a simpler, more relaxed experience.
With Animal Crossing-like chibi visuals and a gameplay loop built around many of Stardew Valley's core mechanics, Huglings could appeal to fans of cozy co-op games that emphasize farming and base building. Up to four players can join the same session and build their dream farm using a wide range of customizable structures and furniture. According to the developer, a typical playthrough takes roughly 8 to 12 hours, though players can continue expanding their farms and homes before or after completing the story.
Developer Cuddlecados announced in a Steam Community post that Huglings has surpassed 10,000 wishlists on the platform. While Steam is home to games with millions of wishlists, reaching 10,000 for a small indie title represents a notable milestone. Players interested in seeing what Huglings has to offer can also try its free demo, which includes hours of content. Although the demo has only a small number of reviews at the time of writing, more than 80% of them are positive.
Fortunately for fans, the wait for the full game's release will not be long. Huglings launches on Steam on September 17, with the developers saying, "We've poured so much time, love, and hard work into Huglings, always trying to make it the best experience we possibly can." The launch will also mark the beginning of further development for the game, as Cuddlecados has teased seasonal updates that could shape Huglings' world around player feedback and requests.
