Co-Op games are some of best kinds of games out there, but not all of them reach the same heights as titles like Split Fiction. That hasn't stopped some pretty famous developers from trying to get into the co-op world.
The hardest part is that to make a really great co-op game you'll need action that's fun and a bit silly, but also engaging and deep enough to remain compelling. It's a difficult balance, and many co-op games end up fading into obscurity even when backed by the best studios and developers.
This list definitely consists of games from popular or famous developers, but some of the games may be little-known for good reason. Whether you like the games on the list or not, just remember it isn't about being good, although being good would be a nice bonus.
It feels a little odd to put one of the biggest flops in gaming on a list like this, but the game did basically fade into obscurity once it was out. This co-op hack-and-slash RPG released to some scathing reviews, and for good reason, given the game felt like it had little to no direction.
That was a real surprise given the game was developed by Platinum Games, maker of Bayonetta and Nier: Automata. While the specifics are a bit fuzzy, the game could not deliver a worthwhile experience and pretty much everyone agreed that it wasn't up to snuff.
Platinum Games has mostly stuck to single-player games since then, and has found some success with games like Ninja Gaiden 4. Whether they'll return to the co-op scene is unknown, but it seems very unlikely.
Not every game on this list is going to be a massive dumpster fire, but this one was just too good to exclude. This title has arguably one of the worst and most interesting development stories to date.
