Earlier this evening, the folks over at The Verge published a report that suggested GTA 6 pre-order sales were being "heavily skewed" towards PS5, and that it was "ringing yet more alarm bells about the platform" amongst other challenges that the brand has suffered recently (such as the layoffs that took place earlier this week).
This ended up getting the attention of Xbox CSO Matthew Ball, and he's taken to social media to insist that Xbox is "very happy" with GTA 6 sales so far, and that it's breaking records for the brand in the process.
Here's what Ball had to say in response to The Verge's Tom Warren on social media:
Ball also replied to a couple of other tweets with the words "false" and "not true" when they suggested that Xbox employees were concerned about the sales (which seemingly wasn't part of The Verge's original report anyway).

Now, of course, the mention about GTA 6 sales being "heavily skewed" towards PS5 hasn't necessarily been denied here - Ball is just keen to make clear that there's no disappointment on Xbox's side about the pre-order sales so far.
It actually makes sense that the game would sell better on PlayStation than Xbox considering the difference in console sales over the past however many years, so ultimately it's not a surprise that GTA 6 will likely sell more copies on Sony's platform than Microsoft's. Nevertheless, it's evidently "breaking records" on Xbox regardless.
Xbox's CSO has been very active and transparent on social media ever since taking the job earlier in 2026, and this is yet another example of that. For what it's worth, we're not insinuating this is inaccurate reporting from The Verge — they're usually on the money with the stuff they share — but skewed sales and "breaking records" can still go hand-in-hand!
