As you progress through How to Fish, you’ll unlock new quests by meeting different NPCs on each island. After reaching the third island, you will meet a tourist who has a rather unusual request. He wants you to catch an endangered creature and says he will give you the coordinates to the next island in return. But the problem is that he doesn’t tell you which creature he’s talking about. So what exactly do you need to catch?
During the conversation, the tourist tells you that he’s on vacation and wants something cool to show his colleagues when he gets back. He’s too scared to get into the water himself because of the scary fish lurking there, which is why he asks you to catch an endangered creature for him. In return, he has some spare snacks that you can use as bait to catch the scary fish. Once you complete both requests, the tourist will give you the coordinates for the next island.
There are around 10 different creatures that can be caught on the third island. I caught several of them during this quest, and only the Needlefish and Seahorse count as endangered creatures. There may be one or two other species that also count as endangered, but I can’t confirm them yet. I only tested the Needlefish and Seahorse, and both counted for the quest.
To catch either of these endangered creatures, make sure you have the Standard Lure equipped because the other baits won’t work. You can buy it from the shop on the third island for $15. Once you have it, equip your fishing rod and cast your line into the water.
You may have to wait a little since the Standard Lure can also catch some of the other creatures found around the third island. Keep fishing until you get a Seahorse or Needlefish. When you catch one, take it off the fishing rod and kill it, then bring its body back to the tourist NPC.
The tourist will give you a carrot in return. You will need to equip the carrot as bait on your fishing rod and cast your line again. This will summon the third island's boss, Pufferfish. Before starting the fight, make sure your HP and hunger bars are full. You can use the trees and the shop nearby as cover while fighting it, which makes the encounter a little easier. Once you've defeated it, take its carcass back to the tourist. Give it to him, and the quest will be complete. You will also unlock the Vacation achievement by completing it.
