A new Pokemon GO event will begin on October 4, allowing players to get a special costumed variant of Pikachu for a limited time. Over the years, Pokemon GO has offered lots of costumed variants of Pokemon, sometimes as a way of promoting different events. As the face of the franchise, Pikachu has gotten more costumed variants compared to any other Pokemon. In the past, the game has offered versions based on Detective Pikachu, the Pokemon Horizons anime, and much more.
While Pikachu is the one that most frequently gets costumed variants, other popular Pokemon have received similar treatments. A costumed Charizard was added to Pokemon GO recently, inspired by the one used in the anime by Friede. The developers have offered multiple options to catch it, including appearances in the wild, as well as an encounter through special timed research.
Following the conclusion of the Pokemon Horizons event in Pokemon GO, Astronaut Pikachu will debut as the game's next costumed Pokemon. In honor of World Space Week, Astronaut Pikachu will appear in the game starting on Sunday, October 4 at 12 AM through Saturday, October 10 at 11:59 PM local time. During that time, Astronaut Pikachu will appear in One-Star Raids, and players will also be able to encounter it through special timed research. As with other costumed Pikachu in Pokemon GO, there is a chance players will encounter a Shiny version during the event.
The design for Astronaut Pikachu is based on a plush that was sent to the International Space Station earlier this year. Pokemon fans will have an opportunity to purchase their own version of the plush through the Pokemon Center website, alongside other merchandise depicting Astronaut Pikachu. Pokemon-themed museum exhibits have been offered in the past, and fans in Europe can look forward to a similar promotion soon. As part of a collaboration with the European Space Agency, several museums will host Pokemon exhibits starting in October.

The final date of the Space Week event will coincide with October's Pokemon GO Community Day. The Zorua Community Day event takes place on Saturday, October 10, from 2 to 5 PM local time. This means that players who won't have a chance to participate in any of the Astronaut Pikachu Raids during the rest of Space Week will want to do so on Community Day if they plan on going out looking for Zorua. This will be the last opportunity to do so, unless Pokemon GO decides to bring Astronaut Pikachu back at some point in the future.
Pokemon GO's Twilight Trails season began earlier in the month of September, and Scopely Explore has wasted no time laying out its plans. The season will run through December 1, and players can expect to see new Mega Evolutions and Dynamax Pokemon over the coming weeks. Mega Staraptor was recently added, and Mega Chandelure will also debut at some point this season. It's unclear exactly when Mega Chandelure will appear in Pokemon GO, but it's a safe bet that the Ghost/Fire-type is being held until closer to Halloween.
