Insomniac is still working on its previously rumoured Marvel’s Venom game, according to dependable industry snoop NatetheHate2.
The unfortunately named leaker has accurately outed a number of projects over the years, and says Sony studio Insomniac is very much still beavering away on this spin-off.
It follows comments from Bloomberg’s equally dependable Jason Schreier, who ruled out rumours the title had been cancelled earlier in the year.
Word of a Venom game first emerged in the infamous Insomniac leak, where it was listed on a roadmap of upcoming releases. While timelines have shifted since then, it seems like this game is still very much on the agenda.
NatetheHate2 says he doesn’t know when this project will be announced, but I’d personally expect it to be a cross-gen title on both the PS6 and PS5 – perhaps as a launch game for the new console like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
It makes sense that Sony hasn’t acknowledged it yet because all of its marketing efforts are focused on Marvel’s Wolverine right now, which is out imminently.
Personally, I think a well-executed Venom game has the potential to be massive, as the character is ridiculously popular. All of the Tom Hardy movies did pretty well, despite them receiving rough reviews.
