If you recruited and trained the same character during multiple Part 1 paths in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, that work does not have to go to waste. After reaching Part 3, you can spend Karma Shards at the Shrine of Causality to merge the character's alternate versions, adding their useful progression to the version you recruited in Part 3.
This makes duplicate recruitment worth planning for. Training the same character in different classes on different paths can give their Part 3 version access to a much wider selection of classes, abilities and combat arts.
Merge Causality becomes available when you unlock Part 3 for the first time. The option appears at the Shrine of Causality, inside the Obelisk Chamber.
You can return to the Obelisk Chamber from any point in the story, so you do not need to merge every eligible character immediately.

Part 3 recruitment does not repeat the original requirements. Recruiting a character during a Part 1 path is enough to make that path's version available once the same character joins you in Part 3.
Merge Causality is an upgrade: useful progress from the selected Part 1 version is added to the accessible Part 3 unit without replacing stronger progress with something worse. Abilities and combat arts carry over, while any higher stats take over lower stats.
