One of gaming’s most provocative characters might be getting some extra help in her next game, with the director of Stellar Blade and CEO of Shift Up revealing his life-long dream to help develop a Bayonetta game.
With Stellar Blade’s protagonist Eve being so directly inspired by the British-accented Umbra Witch, it was compliments and praise abound in a new Famitsu interview with Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung-tae and PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inaba. As work begins on Stellar Blade 2, Kim was open about where he is drawing his inspirations from.
In conversation with Inaba at Tokyo Game Show, Kim gushed about his love for Bayonetta, saying the franchise is one of his top three favorite games of all time, and that without her, he would never have been able to create Eve. Bayonetta costumes will feature in the newly revealed Stellar Blade: Complete Edition, which launches on Nintendo Switch 2 in November.
Kim heaped praise on Platinum’s utilization of unique game mechanics and world building, saying: “From the gimmicks like "Witch Time" to [...] the way the environment changes seamlessly from phase to phase is incredible [...] I felt it was a vibrant, lifelike game that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.”
He also described the game series as a “gift” in his life, and added: “I hope it continues for a long time… I hope they'll make it up to Bayonetta 10!”

With sequels in mind, Kim went as far as to say that he’d love to be involved in the making of a new Bayonetta game, joking: “If PlatinumGames would make a desk for me, I'd come every day!” The comment apparently drew a “stern look” from Shift Up’s CBO, but Inaba agreed that Kim’s contributions could be valuable.
Inaba responded: “But those kinds of collaborations sound really fun, don't they? It might be a good idea for us to design something as well, creating a kind of cross-collaboration.”
