The Dragon Ball timeline's future is finally being explored in an official capacity. Although Akira Toriyama passed away in 2024, he'd already contributed heavily to several Dragon Ball projects that are still in production. Notably, Toriyama provided lore, story, and character details for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, which is taking place in Age 1000 of the timeline. This isn't the first time Toriyama has explored Age 1000, having penned a full timeline with epilogues for each Z-Fighter in Dragon Ball Online.
Needless to say, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is bound to contain a lot of new additions that'll fundamentally change the face of the series' future (literally). With the Create a Character feature coming back in full force, XV3 is introducing a new golden age for the Namekians, where they're now a big part of the Earth's population. Not just that, new clips from this month's V-Jump show off our first look at the future's heroes: including Piccolo's successor.
Although John and Jane 1000 are being marketed as Xenoverse 3's main characters, the game is bringing back the character creator and allowing players to make their own custom avatar just like in previous games. Saiyans, Humans, Frost Demons, Majins, and Namekians all return as payable races. Androids are a new race to the Xenoverse games, but were previously already a part of Dragon Ball Heroes as a line of character avatars.
The Namekian race can now awaken a new transformation: specifically, Piccolo's Ultimate form. Piccolo did not obtain his Ultimate form naturally, implying there will be a connection between himself and the CAC Namekian should players choose to embrace their inner Namek. V-Jump also teases the existence of "unknown races," which could imply that Kais or Demons could become playable races down the road.
Piccolo is being set up for a major role in Xenoverse 3, which actually mirrors his character from Dragon Ball Online. In Akira Toriyama's original version of Age 1000 from DBO, Piccolo was the only Z-Fighter still alive, still watching over Earth and leading the next generation of warriors. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is putting Piccolo in a very similar position as he works alongside Bulma and Gamma 1 to protect West City.

This being Xenoverse, time travel will end up bringing characters like Future Trunks and Goku to Age 1000, but Piccolo will stand out as being the only Z-Fighter canonically from later in the timeline. This is a Piccolo who knows how Goku and Vegeta die, what happens to Black Frieza, and the fate of the multiverse. It'll be interesting to see if Xenoverse 3 does anything with this thread.
