Rockstar has finally issued a response to the ongoing Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks. In a statement, Rockstar says that the leaks have been "heartbreaking" for the team, but they're still looking forward to the big reveal tomorrow.
Rockstar also takes the opportunity to apologise that it has taken so long to reveal GTA 6 gameplay officially. Right now, all of the gameplay footage we've seen has come from leaks, most of which are from an individual or group known as Cyberleek.
"It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time," the statement reads. "We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has - from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know."
Rockstar goes on to confirm that there have been no changes, and the extended look will release tomorrow as planned. There will also be no change to the release date: "While it is unfortunate that the intended game experience may now be impacted by some spoilers, we hope that everyone will wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19."
This comes as multiple GTA 6 leaks have been shared online every single day for the past week. They all originate from Cyberleek, a group or individual who appears to have a playable build of the game and is sharing their own gameplay footage. The leaks have given us a look at everything from combat to a party full of nudists. So far, the leaks haven't included any Lucia gameplay, as Cyberleek says this would count as sharing spoilers. However, we are expecting a Lucia leak later today.
While it may seem odd for Rockstar to apologise in its post that acknowledges the leaks, this is a good strategy. Public sentiment hasn't exactly been in Rockstar's favour as of late, especially since it was revealed that GTA 6 will not be getting a physical release. Combine that with the fact that the official gameplay reveal is going to be temporarily exclusive to Netflix, and some saw the leaks as a middle finger to the corporate types at Rockstar and Take-Two, which outweighed any sympathy they had for the devs.
