A listing for Mewgenics has been discovered on the official Xbox Store before an official reveal, and it even seems to reveal a release date of September 8.
Even though GTA 6 has managed to overshadow pretty much everything else before it’s even released, 2026 has had more than its fair share of great video games. With most triple-A games running for the hills in fear of gaming’s equivalent to the Super Bowl, indies have done a ton of the heavy lifting for the year so far.
Denshattack, Meccha Chameleon, Cairn, and Mina the Hollower are all fantastic examples of this, but one of the early heavy-hitters was Mewgenics. Thanks to the game only being available on Steam at launch, a lot of gamers didn’t get the chance to experience Edmund McMillen’s bizarre blend of cat-breeding and tactical roguelike gameplayy, but that's changing very soon.
As pointed out by Redditor smolgote on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, a listing for Mewgenics has been discovered on the official Xbox Store. The listing is still live as of the time of writing and is very unlikely to be a placeholder considering how much information is on there, including listing all of the game’s achievements.
Only an Xbox listing has been found for Mewgenics so far, but you can bet that it’ll come to PlayStation at the same time. Nintendo is a little less certain with the game’s disturbing themes, though.
In fact, the Xbox Store listing also confirms that the Mewgenics console ports are going to be launching on September 8, which means we’re just a few weeks away from the whole world getting cat mania. Considering Gamescom will have “The Music of Mewgenics”, it’s very likely the reveal is happening there.
While the store page itself clearly wasn’t meant to be found before an official announcement was made, the existence of Mewgenics console ports isn’t a surprise. Edmund McMillen confirmed shortly after the game’s PC release that ports and DLC were in the works, so it’s just been a waiting game to see how long they’d actually take. As it turns out, not long at all.
