Dungeons & Dragons Teases SCP-Inspired Horror Setting

Dungeons & Dragons Teases SCP-Inspired Horror Setting

Dungeons & Dragons is returning to horror, but with a whole new setting and theme, as Wizards of the Coast is hinting at a new project inspired by the SCP (Special Containment Procedures) videos, with players trapped in a facility filled with artifical monsters.

While most Dungeons & Dragons games use high fantasy settings, like the Forgotten Realms (as seen in Baldur's Gate 3), there are a wide variety of genres and worlds available to players. For those who love horror, there's the Ravenloft campaign setting, which consists of pocket planes, called Domains of Dread, where powerful beings known as Darklords rule with an iron fist, with players unable to escape until they're defeated.

One of the Domains of Dread in Ravenloft is called Lamordia, whose Darklord is Viktra Mordenheim, a mad scientist who attempts to revive the dead as golems. Viktra's realm is taking on a whole new form, as a new trailer on the Dungeons & Dragons YouTube channel is teasing Project_Lamordia, a new horror project that will be properly revealed on October 13.

Project_Lamordia seems to be updating the Lamordia Domain of Dread and putting it in a modern, SCP-inspired era. The video shows what appears to be a robot in a cell, while a computerized image watches over it all.

The official D&D Beyond website has shed some light on Project_Lamordia. It seems Viktra Mordenheim (or, more likely, one of her descendants), created a company called Mordenheim Kinetics, whose twisted experiments caused it to become ensnared by the Mists of Ravenloft, transforming it into a Domain of Dread.

D&D Beyond also mentioned that Vikta became obsessed with ending the idea of death. It's likely that the computerized form is her, cheating her demise by transforming into computer data, possibly moving to machine bodies as needed.

Lamordia is the perfect Domain of Dread for body horror and robots, considering it's essentially a retelling of Frankenstein. It even had its own Adam equivalent, as Viktra's greatest creation was Eve, made from a former lover who passed away, and who was transformed in death, becoming one of her fiercest opponents. Chances are, a modern take of Eve will also appear in Project_Lamordia.
