Sony’s hit Remote Play handheld PS Portal has an important new update available which should help preserve the battery life of the peripheral.
Available as part of v7.1.7, the new system software allows you to restrict charging to 80%, helping to extend the long-term health of the handheld’s battery.
You’ll find the new option under Settings > System > Battery.

Charging devices to 100% and keeping them plugged in is generally not good for battery health, as it increases stress and chemical wear. Limiting full charges to 80% like this can help to preserve the long-term health of your devices.
The firmware update also includes some minor other improvements, like system software functionality and the usability of messages, so this is well worth downloading.
You can find the full patch notes through here, but this seems like a necessary update to extend the life of Sony’s well-liked accessory.
