We've got another big release coming to Xbox in a few days' time in the form of Control Resonant, and considering all the reviews started going live yesterday, that means we've also got some raw Xbox Series X and Series S footage.
There are two great sources for this - Digital Foundry and Fuzion Xbox Testing. Digital Foundry gives us a breakdown of all the key stats for both versions, while Fuzion Xbox Testing shows off extended footage with no commentary.
On Xbox Series X, Control Resonant runs at a native 864p and 1260p (with upscaling on top) with a largely smooth 60FPS and 30FPS across the two graphical modes. This is said to be achieving "visual and performance parity with the PlayStation 5", although the PS5 Pro is understandably the best way to play the game on consoles.
On Xbox Series S, Control Resonant has just the one graphical mode running at 864p and 30FPS. Again, the frame rate seems to be largely stable, and the mode itself appears to match the same settings (at 30FPS) as the Series X performance mode.
Beyond all of this, DF recognises that there are some visual issues across all non-PS5 Pro consoles:
"The game's cascaded shadow maps often look incoherent and artifact-ridden from distant views. Screen-space reflections prove a fine solution for specular lighting, but the reflection detail isn't preserved when on-screen details are occluded. The game's camera follows the player at considerable distance to frame brawls, but it can collide awkwardly with walls and other geometry. Image quality isn't great either on non-Pro consoles, exhibiting substantial breakup and a poor resolve on fine details."
However, the outlet also sums up the game as offering an "engaging" presentation overall:
"Ultimately, Control Resonant demonstrates both the flexibility and the limits of Remedy's Northlight engine as it transitions into open-world territory. While base consoles struggle with image clarity and draw distance limitations, the overall graphical presentation remains engaging."
