Overwatch fans will soon have an opportunity to earn some rare loot for their cosmetic collections, as Blizzard unveiled some exclusive prizes players can earn by tuning into BlizzCon on September 12 and 13. Overwatch is just one game that will be prominently shown during BlizzCon, alongside World of Warcraft and the Diablo series.
The news came weeks after Overwatch released its 53rd playable Hero character. On August 11, the MEKA Squad leader D.Mon was added as a Stalwart Tank Hero. Despite being in the same squadron as MEKA pilot D.Va, D.Mon has a different kit that is more suited for close-range combat. D.Mon uses a plasma saber and a heavy machine gun for offense, and can generate a power barrier similar to one used by Reinhardt for defending her teammates. As of this writing, D.Mon currently has a 55% win rate in competitive game modes.
Days ahead of BlizzCon, Twitch and Blizzard revealed some in-game goods that Overwatch fans can soon earn. Once BlizzCon begins, viewers can claim Twitch Drops from watching the Overwatch World Cup (OWWC) tournament that will take place during BlizzCon. Each day, a new slate of Twitch Drops can be collected for watching anywhere between 15 minutes and eight hours of the OWWC, which will automatically be added to viewers' in-game inventories. For example, viewers who watch at least two hours of the OWWC on September 12 will earn a tournament-themed skin for Jetpack Cat. By comparison, some Domina skins will be available throughout September 13. Additional skins will be available once four hours of screen time have passed on each BlizzCon day.
Viewers who watch the entire OWWC can earn up to six loot boxes, four skins, and other cosmetics for their collections. Just like previous Overwatch Twitch Drop events, eligible viewers must connect their Twitch and Battle.net accounts together to receive the aforementioned rewards. However, it is currently unclear if BlizzCon's in-person attendees will receive similar goods during the convention. The OWWC tournament starts on September 12 at 3:00 PM Eastern and lasts approximately six hours, with an Overwatch art panel happening once the quarterfinal round concludes. The semifinals and finals will air on September 13 starting at 12:00 PM Eastern.

As for what BlizzCon attendees can expect, the opening ceremony kicks off on September 12 at 1:00 PM Eastern. During the ceremony, members of Blizzard's development teams will share future content updates and expansions for the company's most popular titles. Given that World of Warcraft is currently in the middle of the Worldsoul Saga story arc, it is possible that Blizzard could share the first glimpses of The Last Titan expansion. As for Overwatch, despite the fact that D.Mon was just released as a playable Hero, it is not out of the question for Blizzard to share details about future Heroes.
This year's two-day BlizzCon event will be held on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, at the Anaheim Convention Center. Aside from the Le Sseraphim live concert, all of BlizzCon's stage panels and tournaments will be streamed for free on Blizzard's official Twitch and YouTube channels.
