MindsEye, the deeply troubled PS5 action-shooter that launched back in June of last year, will soon be laid to rest.
That's according to a number of new reports from people who very recently lost their jobs at developer Build A Rocket Boy, which is said to be on the cusp of shutting down completely.
Unfortunately, the writing was on the wall with this one. Despite the studio's attempts to reverse MindsEye's fortunes through a number of updates, the team was crippled by several rounds of significant layoffs. The first occurred just weeks after the game's release.
On paper, MindsEye was an ambitious project, spearheaded by former GTA producer Leslie Benzies. However, the vision never quite came together, and it was panned by both reviewers and players for being a bug-ridden and confusingly designed mess.
It very quickly got to a point where Sony was approving refunds on PS5. Build A Rocket Boy soon vowed to turn things around, as mentioned, but in truth, the game was simply never good enough on a fundamental level to fuel some kind of Cyberpunk 2077-style comeback.
There hasn't been official word of Build A Rocket Boy's closure just yet, but it's almost certainly coming. On top of various LinkedIn posts from now ex-employees, Kotaku says that in-the-know sources have confirmed the situation.
That's the end of MindsEye, then — but do you think this could have gone any differently? Open your own eye in the comments section below.
