During the Gamescom Opening Night Live, Capcom brought back a familiar face. The company continues to release top tier games and adding to this will be Mega Man: Dual Override. This is the first extended look at the latest Mega Man games that continues the art design from Mega Man 11. This is the twelfth mainline entry in the series, despite not being Mega Man 12 in name. It will be available in 2027 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store. The trailer can be watched below.
The series has seen expansion dating back to Mega Man 3, where the gameplay was sped up and the slide was introduced along with Rush, the dog. Mega Man 4 saw the Mega Buster Charge that would change gameplay going forward for all Mega Man titles. It also had a hook and a balloon. Small tweaks will be added throughout the years, but Mega Man: Dual Override will be expanding a ton. Proto Man will be a playable character in the game. This is the brother of Mega Man that was introduced in Mega Man 3.

The Override system will allow robots to temporarily unleash power beyond their normal capabilities. This will add strategy to the game as utilizing this, potentially in an act of desperation, will experience a temporary loss in performance. Think of a desperation move in a fighting game to close the gap. A new custom chip system will allow for personalization for Mega Man and Proto Man. Equip power-ups like rapid-fire, protective shields, hover and more. Chips can be combined for different results and strategies. A special weapons pack a punch and offer other strategic advantages. Each of these will use energy, so the special weapons need to be used wisely.
The trailer shows off the first of eight new Robot Masters for Mega Man: Dual Override. Twinkle Girl bursts into battle with a firework-themed attack. Players will convert that ability once the robot is beaten to use as a powerful weapon. Another Robot Master was revealed, and it may seem familiar to fans. That is because it is. Astro Man from Mega Man 8 will be one of the eight. Capcom is teasing legacy Robot Masters to be included, as well.
Currently, Mega Man: Dual Override is available to wishlist on PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store and Steam. Also, the previous title Mega Man 11 is on sale for only $4.49. The recently released Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection is also on sale for $29.99. Mega Man 11 released way back in 2018 as the Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection includes even titles from the Nintendo DS: Mega Man Star Force: Leo, Dragon, and Pegasus, Mega Man Star Force 2: Zerker x Ninja and Zerker x Saurian, and Mega Man Star Force 3: Black Ace and Red Joker.
Mega Man was originally created and published in 1987 by Capcom. It released around Christmas of that year and saw modest success. Mega Man 2 is the most popular in the series and launched a year later. Mega Man 3 would release in 1990 and introduce faster gameplay, more Robot Masters, and brought in the slide mechanic and Rush the dog. Mega Man 4-6 would close out the NES line while Mega Man X became prevalent on the Super Nintendo. On the Sega Genesis, The Wily Wars was a remake of the first three games for the Sega Genesis. It was not available in America until much later. The Super Nintendo would receive Mega Man 7 and Mega Man Soccer.
The 32-bit era would see only one mainline Mega Man game with Mega Man 8 on both the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. Mega Man X4-X6 would release in that gen, as well, as X7 and X8 would release on the following generation. Mega Man Legends would prove popular on the Nintendo 64. Years would go by before Capcom brought Mega Man 9 and 10 in its original 8-bit design to consoles. The series has mostly laid dormant for years. The Nintendo DS and Gamecube would see Battle Network games along with the Star Force games.
