How to Get All Beastmaster Familiars in FFXIV

How to Get All Beastmaster Familiars in FFXIV

Thanks to the Patch 7.56 update, Final Fantasy XIV finally has a second limited job for players to try out in the form of Beastmaster. With capturing and taming monsters as the name of the game for this job, there are dozens of different beasts you'll need to seek out in order to fill its bestiary and master the job itself.

That said, half the challenge is just knowing what creatures you can capture and where to find them all. Some are easily encountered out in the wilds around Eorzea, while others will require you to dive into dungeons or even alliance raids to tame more unique beasts. Here's how to capture every beast as Beastmaster in Final Fantasy XIV, as of Patch 7.56.

Beastmaster is the second Limited Job added to Final Fantasy XIV (after Blue Mage) as part of Dawntrail's Patch 7.56 update, and similar to other jobs in the game, you'll need to find and pick up the respective quest to unlock it.

Our guide to unlocking Beastmaster provides all the necessary details you'll need in terms of how to get started with the job. In the meantime, you can pick up the starting quest 'Strangers in the Wood' in New Gridania at (X:11.8, Y:13.6) from the Excited Adventurer. Note that you'll need a Level 50 combat class to accept the quest, and need to have completed 'The Ultimate Weapon' Main Scenario Quest as well.

Once you've completed the initial quest in the Central Shroud to unlock Beastmaster and unlocked your default beast companion, Cu Sith, J'yhuh Tia will provide you with some advice for capturing other beasts out in the wilds of Eorzea.

To obtain other familiars (as the game refers to them) for your bestiary, you first need to find a beast out in the wild that you can tame. Note that you cannot tame any beast that's a higher level than your Beastmaster job. In other words, if your Beastmaster is currently Level 10, you cannot tame a beast that's Level 15 just yet. You can determine the probability of capturing a beast by using your 'Gauge' action.

You then need to weaken the beast with your attacks until it's suitable to capture. To do so, use the 'Capture' action on your hotbar, and a weakened beast will improve your odds of success. Once you've claimed it, it will be registered in your Master's Bestiary as a familiar that you can summon with your Battlehorn ability. Different familiars can be assigned to one of your three Battlehorns, so make sure to keep track.

Finally, entries in the Master's Bestiary pertain to general types of beasts. However, capturing a qualifying variant of a specific beast type will count towards that entry, meaning it doesn't have to always be one specific monster to complete an entry. All qualifying variants are detailed in the list below.
