CS2 players’ in-game chat logs are now being exposed publicly

Counter-Strike 2 players have discovered that messages they send during matches can be viewed publicly online, with some profiles showing hundreds or even thousands of old chat messages.

The messages are being displayed by third-party CS2 statistics website cstracker.gg, which creates public profiles using data collected from Counter-Strike matches.

Alongside typical stats including K/D ratio, win rate and match history, profiles can include a dedicated chat history containing messages players sent during tracked games.

The discovery spread across the Counter-Strike community on August 27, with one Reddit post warning players that “everything you have ever said in text chat is now public info.”

However, the archive is not necessarily a complete record of everything a player has ever said in CS2.

According to cstracker.gg, its data comes from publicly available Steam information and processed CS2 match demos.

Some of those demos contain messages sent during matches, allowing the website to attach them to individual player profiles alongside details including the map, round and timestamp.

The site’s FAQ also notes that Valve only retains match demos for around 30 days, meaning older matches are not always available to be collected.
