Nintendo of America has announced a Customer Appreciation Sale that is "made possible in part by tariff-related refunds".
The promotion - running between 13th and 26th September on the eShop, online Nintendo Store and with participating retail partners - is touted as "one of our largest promotions ever".
It's set to offer 30% off "dozens" of digital games and bundles, plus savings on DLC, physical games, accessories and amiibo figures.
As for why it's happening, a press release explains it's due to "tariff-related refunds". While Nintendo has "absorbed most tariff-related costs", the company says, it's because of the refunds the sale has been made possible. Here's the quote in full:
The Customer Appreciation Sale is our way of saying thank you to Nintendo players for their continued support and is made possible in part by tariff-related refunds. While Nintendo absorbed most tariff-related costs, the refunds helped make promotions like this one possible.

Due to the US-centric nature of the tariffs - and the fact the press release has only appeared on the Nintendo of America website - this is almost certainly a US-only promotion, but we'll update if any discounts also show up in other regions.
Earlier in the year, Nintendo asked a court to dismiss a lawsuit related to the tariffs, arguing customers were not entitled to any rebates as they "received exactly what they bargained and paid for" when it came to price-increased products.
