Nintendo has officially confirmed that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027 with a new Definitive Edition release. The upcoming release will bring 2020's Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity to the Switch 2, looking better than ever.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is the second game in the Omega Force-developed Zelda spin-off. The game takes the vibrant world from The Legend of Zelda and infuses it with the hack-and-slash gameplay of Dynasty Warriors, also developed by Omega Force. While technically a spin-off of the main series, it serves as a prequel to 2017's Zelda: Breath of the Wild, featuring Link and Zelda's adventures 100 years prior to that game. Overall, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity received positive reviews from critics, and a sequel, Age of Imprisonment, launched in 2025.
During the most recent Nintendo Direct, the company confirmed that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - Definitive Edition will release on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 25, 2027, with pre-orders available right now. The Definitive Edition promises improved visuals and 60 frames per second gameplay, all while managing to feature more enemies on screen at any given moment. Its trailer shows the considerable difference in enemy count, and it's certainly impressive.
That's not all - Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - Definitive Edition adds an all-new difficulty level to the hack-and-slash Zelda spin-off: Calamity Mode. Very little is known about the new difficulty at this point in time, only that it will be the hardest challenge the game has to offer. Players who own Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity on the original Nintendo Switch will receive a discount on the digital Switch 2 version purchased via the Nintendo eShop.

Another important note: the Definitive Edition includes all content in the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass, which originally cost $19.99 by itself. The Expansion Pass came in two waves: Pulse of the Ancients and Guardian of Remembrance, adding new playable characters, new weapon types, and more. It brings it all together in one neat package, over six years after its original release.
It's been a big few days for the Legend of Zelda franchise. Yesterday's special 40th Anniversary offered a new look at the long-awaited Ocarina of Time remake, as well as finally confirming a release date for the game. From now until the end of the year, Nintendo will be doing plenty to celebrate a massive milestone for one of its biggest franchises, and it will be exciting to see if it has anything else up its sleeve.
