Ubisoft games have been added to Xbox’s disc-to-digital feature, as more titles continue to support the service

A large number of Ubisoft’s disc games are now compatible with Xbox’s disc-to-digital program, as more titles continue to be supported.

The feature lets players insert a compatible Xbox One or Xbox Series X disc and receive a digital licence for it, essentially turning it into a digital version that acts as if it had been bought on the Xbox Store (and therefore no longer needs to have the disc in the drive).

Players can continue to keep the disc, which will work as it always did, but will receive the extra benefits of having a digital version, including the ability to play it on multiple Xbox devices (including the Series S, which doesn’t have a disc drive), or use other features like Play Anywhere (making PC versions available where supported) and cloud streaming.

Xbox started rolling out the disc-to-digital feature to Insider members last week, stating that it was “starting with thousands” of titles that supported it, and promising more would follow.

As players started testing their games to see which ones worked and which didn’t, it started to become clear that certain publishers’ titles – such as those by Ubisoft and Square Enix – almost universally didn’t support the feature.

This week players have started reporting that Ubisoft games now appear to be working, something VGC tested today and can verify.

Last week, when the feature initially went live, VGC tested 56 Xbox One disc games to see which ones would give a digital licence, and which didn’t. A total of 35 games did work, while 21 – including eight Ubisoft titles – didn’t.

Having run the test again today with the games that previously didn’t work, all eight Ubisoft games – Assassin’s Creed Unity, The Division 2, Far Cry 4, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Shape Up, Trackmania Turbo, South Park: The Fractured But Whole and a 2-in-1 pack including Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy – granted us a digital licence without fail.
