YouTuber simulates 2 billion years of Minecraft to see if the game can beat itself

YouTuber RedLogic left a Minecraft world to fend for itself for nearly 2 billion simulated years, and somehow its mobs rolled the credits on their own.

That’s already more composure than some far fancier players have shown lately. Earlier this month, a Creeper blew up the chest and bed of OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra, and the AI spent the next several hours forlornly farming potatoes.

RedLogic’s world, on the other hand, had nobody around to sulk. All it had was mobs, blocks, and an obscene amount of time.

In his video Running Minecraft Until It Beats Itself, RedLogic put a thought experiment from fellow YouTuber RetroGamingNow to the test. The theory went that Endermen could plop stray carved pumpkins onto snow and accidentally build snow golems, which would then provoke Creepers into blasting a path to The End.

The catch was that “there is no way for mobs to reach the end without a player placing the eyes of Ender,” so RedLogic hunted down a seed with a completed 12-eye portal buried beneath an ice spikes biome. Since nobody can babysit a world for billions of years, he then built a Monte Carlo simulation that swapped “billions of ordinary ticks” for statistically sampled waiting times.

Progress crawled along at a geological pace, and although an Enderman snatched the pumpkin that mattered in year 33,477, Creepers only flung open the route to the portal a few thousand years later. From there, a snow golem needed nearly 3 million years to pop its first End Crystal, and it only managed that because it missed a snowball aimed at an Enderman.

One stubborn golem later took out the ninth crystal in year 181 million, then “wandered the end for 18 million years” before it hit the last one. Yet even after almost a quarter of a billion years, the dragon had lost a measly 2% of its health. It finally died in year 1.975 billion, by which point villagers had long gone extinct and Creeper craters pockmarked swathes of snowy biomes.
