Earlier this year, an Evangelion ride opened at the Huis Ten Bosch theme park and resort, and now, fans can enjoy much more, from a themed hotel room and character-inspired menu items to exclusive merchandise.
With its focus on the complexity of human emotions, mental health, and the impact of trauma, Neon Genesis Evangelion completely subverted expectations when it comes to the mecha genre, being more character-driven and less about the flashy giant biomechanical robots its main characters are forced to pilot. While its final two episodes drew criticism for being wildly abstract, this hasn't stopped the series from going down in history as some of the best content the anime world has to offer, with Anno's work inspiring countless others. The real world often finds itself taken over by the series, and now, a massive Japanese theme park is offering a little of everything for fans.
At the Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Nagasaki, Evangelion fans can now enjoy a plethora of new experiences following the grand opening of Evangelion: The Ride -8K- in April 2026. A special Evangelion-themed room is available at the nearby Hotel Den Haag, allowing guests to experience total immersion, while participating restaurants inside the park will offer limited-edition themed food and drink items starting on November 6. Exclusive merchandise, including apparel and unique items featuring Asuka, Shinji, and Rei in traditional Dutch folk costumes, will also be available for purchase. Located in Sasebo, Nagasaki, Huis Ten Bosch is one of Japan's more unique theme parks, recreating the Netherlands and inviting visitors to explore life-sized copies of historical Dutch buildings. Known as Japan's largest theme park, Huis Ten Bosch officially opened in 1992 and continues to expand each year. In 2015, the first hotel to be entirely staffed by robots was opened on the property, while in 2025, a new area of the park inspired by Dick Bruna's popular character Miffy debuted.
A brand-new Evangelion anime project was confirmed early this year, which will be written by Yoko Taro (Nier) and directed by Hideki Anno's protégé, Kazuya Tsurumaki, who served as assistant director on the original series, along with Toko Yatabe (Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc, Darling in the Franxx). This new iteration of Evangelion will be animated by khara and CloverWorks, with a soundtrack composed by Keiichi Okabe, known for his work on the Tekken and Drakengard game series, as well as popular anime releases like Summer Time Rendering and Star Driver. No release date has been confirmed.
The world of video games isn't safe from the power of Evangelion either. Final Fantasy 14 players got the shock of a lifetime in April, when it was confirmed that the popular MMO would be collaborating with Neon Genesis Evangelion in the game's next expansion, Evercold. While little is known about the content of the collab so far, an Evangelion-themed raid is on the way, potentially with plugsuits for characters to snag, along with other goodies inspired by the anime series. Characters from the anime series are also coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds in the near future, along with themed tracks.
