Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima says he hopes GTA 6 will “blaze a trail” in allowing game developers to charge more for games.
While Grand Theft Auto 6 has been in development, there has been plenty of talk about the price tag. Rockstar Games confirmed it’ll set players back $79.99 for the base version, and the Ultimate Edition will cost $99.99.
However, Martin Klima, co-founder of Warhorse Studios – who are behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance – is hopeful that GTA 6 will help set a higher base price for other games.
“The last thing you can do is to increase the unit price,” Klima told PC Gamer, noting it may be “necessary” to keep the game industry alive. “That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost.”
Despite all the hype, Klima also said he won’t play GTA 6 unless he is “forced to” because it doesn’t “appeal” to him in any way.
“I am not going to be playing GTA 6 unless I’m somehow forced to,” he added. “And the reason why it is so popular—it beats me. It’s something which I just fail to understand.”
However, he does think it is “really good” that developers like Rockstar are making games that “are really technological marvels.”
Back in late 2024, Larian Games’ Michael Douse said something similar to Klima, suggesting everyone else was waiting for Rockstar to pull the trigger on a massive price point.
